Minimum requirements

Qualifications:

  • A degree, diploma or equivalent in photography, at least 12 months practical photographic experience, and experience in managing a multi-faceted high volume photographic sales operation is required for this position. If applicant has no formal qualifications, suitable experience will be taken into consideration in lieu of qualifications. 
  • In addition, the applicant should have at least one year’s experience as a shipboard photographer, and one year’s experience as an Assistant Photo Manager, although other relevant experience may be taken into account in lieu of this requirement. 
  • Thorough knowledge of the Cruise Line’s environmental policy relating to Photo Lab operations is essential.
  • Ability to conduct training sessions at all levels including one on ones and large groups
  • Ability to effectively deal with internal and external guests, some of whom will require high levels of discretion, patience, tact and diplomacy
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing exemplary customer and personal service including needs assessment, problem resolution and achievement of quality service standards
  • Ability to communicate diplomatically with managers, shipboard and shore-side employees to resolve problems and negotiate amicable resolution to challenging issues.
  • Completion of high school, basic or vocational education equivalency preferred.
  • Applicant must have advanced computer literacy, knowledge of and experience using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Lotus Notes, Microsoft PowerPoint and Adobe Photoshop and be able to operate other advanced computer systems, touch-screen kiosks and perform basic computer troubleshooting procedures.
  • Must be able to work independently and function under pressure in a deadline oriented, fast paced environment for extended periods.

 Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the shipboard employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Extensive travel from ship to ship with varying accommodations and resting opportunities require good health. Active management of health through diet and exercise is a key for prolonged success in the position
  • All shipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats.  The employee must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

The Photo Manager role requires candidate to oversee the ships photo operation and reports to shoreside Photo Operations Management, and onboard to the Hotel Director and Marketing & Revenue Manager. Responsibilities include customer service, driving sales and achieving budget, photo lab & photo gallery operations, accounting, scheduling, reporting, staff training and development, succession planning, liaising with onboard and shore-side teams, environmental compliance, inventory control, marketing and promoting all areas of the photo operation and driving the business forward in accordance with the company’s goals. In order to consistently exceed guest expectations and provide the highest levels of product and services, additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed. 

 The goal of the Photo Manager is to ensure the best service is provided for each area of the operation. The position is responsible for the co-ordination of production, merchandising and sales to maximize profits for the onboard Photo Department. The Photo Manager must work towards achieving profitable results for Royal Caribbean International while maintaining full compliance and professional integrity of all policies. The position is expected to project the highest level of professionalism to the staff and guest while offering quality Customer Service to all.

  • Create an effective, efficient, staff duty schedule that is fair, balanced and provides the infrastructure to exceed budgeted goals for revenue and guest satisfaction.
  • Ensure image quality is maximized for all events through regular photographer feedback, training and coaching. 
  • Ensure customer service is always of the highest level, through monitoring, training, coaching and developing the team, and leading by example. 
  • Take a pro-active role in staff development and training, being able to deliver effective training sessions, and provide regular coaching for all team members to continuously drive revenue and guest satisfaction scores beyond budgeted goals and strengthen the operation.

The company strives to hire couples on the same ship, but cannot guarantee boarding on the same day for both partners. Company personnel needs prevail. Registration and couple IDs are available only on board when both partners have embarked, however it is very important to mention this aspect since the first discussion you have with our Recruiter.

During the interview, applicants are required to declare:

Normally, you will be working with at least 3 breaks on schedule.

Time is very carefully monitored aboard a cruise ship, by means of electronic timekeeping. You can perform additional work only at the express request of the management, in this case the overtime period will be offset by equivalent free time or paid overtime .

The cabins offer a decent comfort for two crew members, equipped with air conditioning, TV, internet access (with fee), bathroom.

Aboard a cruise ship, there are various ways of recreation and facilities offered for free to the crew members :  the crew bar, recreation areas, internet café, library, gym, pool  (on some ships).

For some staff members (officers , senior management positions and staff members), there may be extra privileges (access to certain passengers areas ) between certain hours.

There may be days off depending on rotation, even 24 hours, but they remain at the discretion of management team, NOT guaranteed by the contract. Normally, a day off aboard a ship typical equates to a free port day, but there are still a few hours of work.

Embarkation flight ticket is covered by the employees from the following departments:
Housekeeping, restaurant, bar, kitchen, reception, Casino
 
Embarkation flight tickets for following positions are covered by employers:
Youth Staff, Cruise Staff, Sports staff, Sound technician, Light technician, Stage staff, Rigging specialist, Digital content specialist, Broadcast technician
 
Disembarkation tickets are covered by employer at the end of each successfully ended contract for all crew/staff members, no matter position/department they belong to.

Embarkation costs may vary, depending on the job or the port of embarkation. 

  • Obtaining a valid passport ( for at least 12 months ) – aprox 300 RON
  • Costs of medical analysis / vaccine- approximately 1,100 RON
  • Consular Fees for US Transit visa - 160 USD (fee reimbursed on board by the Employer, with payment proof from the bank - receipt)
  • Flight cost: estimated bewteen 70- 200 Euro for boarding in European ports and 500-700 Euro for non-European embarkation ports.
